Improvement of oral expression by osteopathic treatment
Functional re-equilibration allows a judicious use of osteopathy when a
painful mecanical syndrome is at the origin of a painful manifestation for
which no organic substrat allows the identification of medical causes for
the problem and so makes difficult the posology of a specific medicinal treatment.
Those syndromes known in medecine as FMS (Fibromyalgia Syndrome) or (diffused
idiopathic polyalgic syndrome), RSI (repetitive strain injury), CAP (chronic
abdominal pains), IBS (irritable bowel syndrome), and PMS (premenstrual syndrome)
benefit by non-medicinal therapies. The authors discovered that such painful
syndromes are ameliorated by functional re-equilibration of the under- diaphragmatic
level. This aims at liberating the amplitude of the diaphragm by a correction
of the postural lumbo-pelvian diagram by means of specific manipulations
on the visceral and articular level. This non-medicinal therapeutic model
allows the diaphragm muscle to recover its functionality. It acts upon
abdominal circulation and favours the diminution of tension in diaphragm
pillars, which allows a better fulcrum for the phrenic center. It was observed,
as a consequence of such a treatment, the sedative effects upon the painful
objectivable mechanisms nearly always go with subjectives signs, revealing
an improvment of gestual and oral expression. It is possible to think of
a relation between lumbo-pelvian posturotherapy and the rehabilitation of
language, if we consider that the corporal mode of expression demands an “equilibrium” at
the center of the body. For example, it is by recovering optimal conditions
in this mecanical well-being that musicians who were having a treatment to
improve their instrumental gesture have also been able to notice an improvement
of their ability in oral expression. The clinics we explain show that the
same postural correction in spite of different therapeutic orientations have
the same effects on vocal capacities.
This lecture tends to show out the incidence of the lumbopelvian postural
diagram upon the mode of oral expression and would explain an etiology for
the different aphonies which accompany the painful syndromes evoked in this
talk, especially the dropping of dynamics in the vocal expression of the
fibromyalgics.
